Serving Sizes

A one pound package would be good for 2 to 3 people if serving with other entree additions. If serving as a "shrimp feast" then about twice this amount would suffice.

Storing and Thawing

Spot shrimp can be thawed under refrigeration about 12 hours before preparation. If purchased in boxed blocks it is often good to break them up as they start to thaw to help them thaw quicker. Thawed prawns can be kept refrigerated in an air-tight container for 2 days. They can easily be stored in your freezer for several months.

Size, Count, and Packaging

Spot shrimp vary in sizes and counts.
Medium spot shrimp - 31 to 40 shrimp per pound. Large spot shrimp - 21 to 30 shrimp per pound.
Jumbo spot shrimp - under 16 shrimp per pound.

Jumbo spot shrimp often carry a few eggs. These eggs are perfectly safe to eat, or can be easily removed before cooking. You might also try using the eggs to make Scampi Butter for dipping shrimp into.

Our spot shrimp are packaged in 2 lb. boxes. They are headless, uncooked, and flash-frozen at sea to insure quality.
