Serving Sizes

When serving King salmon fillets, about 1/2 pound per person is a good portion size. King salmon carries a higher oil content than most Alaskan salmon and is thereby richer. Serving a smaller portion size may be desired in some cases.

Storing and Thawing

To thaw flash-frozen King salmon fillets, place them in refrigerator for a day. Because they are vacuum-sealed you can also run cold water over sealed fillets or steaks to speed up the thawing process. Quickly rinse salmon prior to preparing it. Left-over salmon should be refrigerated and used within a couple of days.

Packaging and Portion Sizes

Our King salmon fillets are flash-frozen and individually vacuum-sealed for your convenience. They can be stored in your freezer for several months. Fillets are boneless, and range from 1/3 to 1 lb. packages. Full-size fillets are often available to buy during the summer months as well.

Fillets are deboned with our pinbone machine, then examined by trained inspectors. We do our best to remove all bones, "so that you don't have to". However, it is possible that we could miss a bone.

Fishing Seasons

The main king salmon fisheries are during the early summer months, while smaller spring, winter and fall fisheries exist as well. In recent years, Alaska fishermen have began catching salmon with care, being careful how salmon are handled and "icing them down" to keep the salmon as fresh as possible. All Alaska's salmon are caught in the wild, not farmed.
