Serving Sizes

When it comes to serving fresh sockeye salmon fillets, about 1/3 to 1/2 pound per person is a good portion size.

Storing and Preparing

Fresh fillets can be stored in your refrigerator but should be used within 48 hours of arrival. Quickly rinse salmon prior to preparing it. Left-over salmon should be kept refrigerated and used within a couple of days.

Packaging and Portion Sizes

Our fresh sockeye salmon fillets are individually sealed for your convenience. Our fresh sockeye salmon fillets are boneless, and range from 1/3 to 1 lb. packages. Full-size fillets are often available during the summer months as well.

Boneless Fillets - Pin Bone Out

Fillets are deboned with our pinbone machine, then examined by trained inspectors.  We do our best to remove all bones, "so that you don't have to".  However, it is possible that we could miss a bone.

Most of our sockeye salmon is caught within the Cook Inlet. The Cook Inlet is a large body of water that stretches up into Alaska. It was first discovered by Captain James Cook, the famous British explorer. It's east banks are bordered by the Kenai Peninsula where dozens of fishing ports are located from Homer to Anchorage. There are many fishing districts throughout this region with all five types of salmon running through the inlet.

Fishing Seasons

Sockeye salmon is the first seasonal salmon caught every summer. They are rushed to fish markets and celebrated throughout the Northwest. Sockeye salmon are caught with careful handling and are kept fresh by "icing them down"  until they are either processed and frozen, or sold in fresh markets.

Availability

Alaska Sockeye Salmon is available all year long. Along with fresh markets during the summer, you can find quality processed sockeye salmon fillets and steaks that have been well handled and are perfect for stocking freezers with. Today's commercial freezing and packaging methods allow salmon to be kept frozen for long periods of time, yet still retaining its quality.
