Alaska Halibut Chunks

These halibut chunks are excellent for making Alaskan fish 'n chips. Just dip them in your favorite batter and deep fry them into a crispy golden delight. They are also perfect for making skewered halibut kabobs with all your favorite goodies included like mushrooms and pineapple.

They are boneless and skinless making them easy to prep. Just thaw under refrigeration, briefly rinse, and use them in your favorite recipe.

Storing and Thawing

Halibut chunks can be thawed under refrigeration about 12 hours before preparation. The vacuum-sealed packages can also be ran under cold water to speed this up considerably.

Portion and Packaging Sizes

Our batter-ready halibut chunks are frozen and individually vacuum-sealed in 1 pound packages. They are boneless and skinless.

Serving Sizes

Serving size will vary with halibut chunks depending on how they are prepared. Usually, about four to five pieces equal one half pound which is a good serving size.

Batter Recipes

Halibut are among the largest fish in the sea and the largest of all the flatfish. They can grow to more than 8 ft long and 500 lbs.  The largest concentration of Alaska halibut is in the Gulf of Alaska, with most in the Kodiak Island area. A smaller amount exist in the Bering Sea.

Fishing Seasons

In 1995, Alaska halibut fishing switched to an individual vessel quota system which has increased the availability of fresh halibut to an 8 month annual span, while also increasing the quality of the halibut landed.

Availability

Alaska halibut is a large, almost annual fishery, making it available all year round. Fresh-frozen processing and glazing allows halibut to be kept frozen for long periods of time with insured quality and means of distribution. Fresh halibut can be commonly found in many local Alaskan fish markets throughout the Northwest.
