Usage & Storage

Fresh Alaska Cod should be enjoyed within 2 or 3 days of delivery to your home.  Like all fresh fish, store in a shallow pan or tray on the bottom shelf of your refrigerator.  Tip:  you can prolong the shelf life of fresh seafood by placing a bag of ice cubes directly on top of it.  (Make sure that the fish does not sit in a pool of melted water.)

Portion Sizes

At FishEx, our fresh Alaska Cod fillet is skinless, boneless, and portioned for your convenience.  Fresh Alaksa Cod is shipped overnight directly to you, and arrives in your kitchen much faster, and fresher than cod that you would get at the grocery store.  We cut our fresh cod into approximately 1 pound portions.

Serving Sizes

About 1/3 to 1/2 pound per person is a good portion size when serving fresh cod. You might find that fresh Alaska cod is so good that you'll want to prepare extra just in case.

Alaska Cod, also called Pacific Cod are commonly found in coastal waters of the Bering Sea. The oldest groundfish fishery in Alaska targets Alaska Cod. This fishery peaked around 1920, declined thereafter, then became a complete domestic fishery in 1991. Now, trawl fisheries play the dominant role for harvesting Alaska Cod. Because of proper management, Alaska cod is naturally abundant and sustainable- which ensures that there will be plenty of this fish in the future.
