Alaska's main red king crab fishery takes place primarily in the frigid waters of Bristol Bay which is located in the Bering Sea. As shown on the Discovery Channel's popular show, the Deadliest Catch, king crab are caught using baited crab pots which are lowered to the ocean's floor. Because the fishery has changed from a derby-style fishery to a quota-style fishery, the slower-pace of the fishery now provides the ability to offer fresh king crab for several months out of the year.
