Map showing Alaska king crab habitats and fishing grounds

Alaska is home to some of the most famous crab fishing grounds in the world. Popularized by Discovery Channel's "Deadliest Catch" TV series, fishing districts once only known to a small group of fishermen have become household names. The Norton Sound and Bristol Bay districts are where Alaska's primary red king crab fisheries take place. The Pribilof and Saint Matthew districts are home to populations of blue king crab.

Dutch Harbor is the "staging" fishing port for most of Alaska's crab fleet, with other important ports including Akutan, Kodiak, Saint Paul, King Cove, and Cold Bay.
